The Garden Bird Survey
Each year since 2006, members of the general public in New Zealand have been asked to identify and count birds for one hour in a specified week.
People count in gardens, parks and schools. By monitoring the distribution and population of common garden birds in New Zealand, we can check what is happening to the bird population. Further information can be found here.
The Harbour Survey
During the past months and in all weathers, members of the Dunedin Branch of OSNZ count birds on the inner harbour, which is divided into seven zones. The group of which I am a member, count from Boiler Point near Careys Bay to the Aramoana Saltmarsh – part of zone five and all of zone seven.
