Tokanui

Friday 14 May 2010 at 4pm

It was very grey day, I was driving towards Tokanui in Southland. The white-faced herons flew in front of the car and landed in the paddock. Some perched on posts, but soon all 21 flew to a distant tree. I observed them sitting in the tree for approximately 15 minutes, before they rose as one and disappeared over the hill. Fortunately just down the road was a large green sign which read Tokanui 18kms, so I was able to easily identify where I had seen them.
